- The iPhone 17e will reportedly have a Dynamic Island rather than a notch
- It could also have a new chipset and a new design
- However, many of its other specs might remain unchanged
The Dynamic Island may be the main new feature of the iPhone 17e, which sounds like it may be a significant improvement over the iPhone 16e.
Reputable leaker Digital Chat Station (via GSMArena) claims that this will eliminate the notch and align the front design with the most recent iPhone models.
According to the same source, the iPhone 17e will likewise have a 6.1-inch 60Hz screen, a single 48MP back camera, and a 12MP front-facing camera with Face ID. It also claims to have an A19 CPU, which is probably the same chipset as the iPhone 17.

This is regrettable because several mid-range Android phones, such as the Samsung Galaxy S24 FE and Google Pixel 9a, which are major competitors of the iPhone ‘e’, offer multiple back cameras and 120Hz screens. Therefore, even at a price that is probably a good deal less than that of other iPhone 17 models, this may still be a rather degraded device and a difficult sell.
An intriguing new design

Interestingly, however, Digital Chat Station also seems to indicate (based on machine translation) that a third upgrade, a new design, will be included in the iPhone 17e. The transition to a Dynamic Island would undoubtedly be a change, but it’s unclear what they mean by that. It appears to be a different argument they’re making, implying other modifications.
The source may be referring to the new Pixel-like camera design that the remainder of the iPhone 17 series is anticipated to adopt. In that scenario, the iPhone 17e may resemble the iPhone 17 Air, which is also anticipated to have a single rear camera, from the back.
As an alternative, they might be alluding to the inclusion of a Camera Control button, which is not found on the iPhone 16e but is found on the standard iPhone 16 line. However, that is merely conjecture.
Given that the single release date leak to date points to May of next year, we might not know for certain which features the iPhone 17e will or won’t acquire for some time. However, the iPhone 17e might be worth the wait if you don’t care too much about features like a fast screen refresh rate or numerous rear cameras.
