What colors will the iPhone 17 series be available in? Here are my expert predictions

With September 9 as the big day, the iPhone 17 series is almost ready to launch. That means it’s time to start considering which model, if any, you want. However, picking a color is nearly as crucial as selecting between the iPhone 17, iPhone 17 Air, iPhone 17, Pro, and iPhone 17 Pro Max.

I have made some educated estimates about the colors we might see for all four models based on rumors, but of course, we won’t know for sure which colors are available until Apple releases these phones.

iPhone 17 color predictions

According to one of the first color suggestions for the iPhone 17, the phone could be sold in either purple or green. However, a more recent leak from the same source lists green along with black, white, pink, and blue, as you can see in the picture of dummy units above. It appears that green won out.

However, according to a source who spoke to MacWorld, the other iPhone 17 colors will reportedly be black, white, steel gray, and light blue. This suggests that both purple and green may be used.

For the time being, I would assume that the five-color list of black, white, pink, blue, and green is more likely because the latter list includes six shades, when Apple typically only offers five with the base iPhone models.

There may be a lot of overlap with last year’s colors because the iPhone 16 comes in black, white, pink, teal (a bluey green), and ultramarine (blue).

iPhone 17 Air color predictions

There may be three sets of colors this year, since rumors indicate the iPhone 17 Air will have its own option. Typically, we only get two sets of colors for numbered iPhones: one set for the base model and the Plus, and another for the two Pro variants.

Three sources all suggest that the colors will be either blue or light blue and black, so there is some agreement on what those hues will be.

Two of the sources also emphasize light gold, with one stating yellow, and two mention white, with one suggesting silver instead. However, bright gold and yellow, as well as silver and white, could look same, thus they all seem to be in accord.

We’ll probably get black, blue or light blue, white or silver, and gold or yellow as a result, in my opinion. The leaked photos above also give you an idea of how these hues can appear.

iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max color predictions

Lastly, there is the iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max, which I have combined since, according to both past performance and rumors, they will most likely be offered in the same range of colors.

There is also some consensus over the colors that these phones will be available; according to one leak, the colors orange, dark blue, gray, black, and silver will be available, whereas MacWorld lists the same colors, with the exception of white instead of silver.

As you can see above, a third leaker has revealed a picture of the five potential shades; however, the orange shade that has been circulating appears to be more of a brown tint in this instance. Though the other speculated colors—black, white or silver, dark blue, and gray—also appear possible, I believe orange to be more likely because it has leaked more often than brown.

However, one of them might not be accessible because Apple’s Pro phones typically come in four colors instead of five. The suspected dark blue hue in particular would seem significantly different from any of the available colors, as the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max are available in Black Titanium, White Titanium, Natural Titanium, and Desert Titanium.
