- A string of code in Samsung beta software mentions the Galaxy Z Trifold’s codename
- It also mentions the Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset
- Code or no code, we’d be surprised if this chipset wasn’t used
We now have a solid notion of the chipset that would be powering Samsung’s first tri-fold phone, which is expected to arrive soon. According to previous rumors, the Samsung Galaxy Z Trifold could emerge sometime in October.
Android Authority has discovered a string of code that contains “siop_q7mq_sm8750” in a recent internal version of One UI 8, the interface that Samsung employs on its Android phones. That may seem pointless, but according to reports, “q7mq” is a codename that has been connected to the Galaxy Z Trifold in the past, while “sm8750” is the Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset’s product number.
Considering everything, it appears that the Snapdragon 8 Elite will power the Samsung Galaxy Z Trifold.

The obvious choice
It would be strange if that chipset wasn’t used, but this isn’t shocking at all. After all, the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7 and the Galaxy S25 series also feature this processor, which is the best one currently available for Android phones.
Therefore, it would seem strange to use anything other than the best available chipset for what is likely to be the company’s most expensive phone, even though it is feasible that the Galaxy Z Trifold may utilize anything else, like the Samsung-made Exynos 2500 used in the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 7.
Even though this tri-fold phone will most likely be extremely costly, it’s still a little comforting to see the Snapdragon 8 Elite mentioned here because Samsung could have easily opted to use something different to bring the price down.
Since the first phones with the Snapdragon 8 Elite 2 are likely to be released in late 2025, the mention of the Snapdragon 8 Elite also implies that the phone will be released soon. If Samsung weren’t releasing the Galaxy Z Trifold in the coming months, the company would most likely choose to use the next generation of this chipset.
Even though this code string provides strong proof, we cannot be certain that the Snapdragon 8 Elite will be utilized.
We might find out in October, but rumors indicate that the Samsung Galaxy Z Trifold might only be sold in China and South Korea at first, so you might not be able to purchase it anyhow. However, we anticipate a more accessible successor if it proves to be a success.
