New iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max leaks show off internals, a camera upgrade – and a SIM slot

There are a lot of iPhone 17 rumors and leaks right now, and the most recent ones that have caught our attention seem to have provided additional information regarding the priciest models that will be available next month: the iPhone 17 Pro and the iPhone 17 Pro Max.

First, a couple of images purportedly depicting the iPhone 17 Pro’s SIM card slot were shared by tipster Majin Bu (via GSMArena). Even while the iPhones are now eSIM-only in the US, this isn’t the situation in other countries, and it appears that the 2025 models won’t be either.

Next, we have pictures from renowned leaker Yeux1122 that allegedly reveal the iPhone 17 Pro Max’s internal components (via Wccftech). We can see the larger camera module that has been rumored and the same metal-covered battery architecture that was utilized in the iPhone 16 Pro last year, which enhances thermal management.

Two distinct battery form designs are also noteworthy; these are likely for iPhones with and without actual SIM card slots. It’s an indication of the modifications Apple must make to its phones in various international markets.

Camera upgrades

The most intriguing rumor of the most recent round comes from another experienced insider, Setsuna Digital (via Notebookcheck), who claims that the iPhone 17 Pro Max will have the most potent telephoto camera to date.

Although it’s unclear if that refers to the most potent telephoto camera in the iPhone series or all handsets, it’s a promising possible improvement in any case. With a telephoto lens that provides 5x optical zoom, the iPhone 16 Pro Max has a triple-lens 48MP+48MP+12MP camera on the back.

We’re not sure how much the optical zoom or megapixel count will be improved this year, but there has already been discussion of an 8x optical zoom, which is one of the reasons for the anticipated case makeover on the rear. Along with the new phones, Apple may also release a high-end photography app.

If Apple follows its regular timetable, the iPhone 17 series will be introduced in September, with Tuesday, September 9 being the most likely day and date. This means we shouldn’t have to wait long to find out how accurate or not these leaks are.
