- Netflix has confirmed when the first trailer for Stranger Things season 5 will be released
- Its first teaser will land online on July 16
- Before the official announcement, fans had been divided on when it would arrive
Update: Tomorrow, July 16, is the official release date of the first official trailer for Stranger Things season 5. Today, July 15, the announcement was posted on the show’s many social media accounts.
Original story follows.
The first trailer for Stranger Things season 5 may be coming very soon, so grab your bicycle handlebars and walkie talkies, everyone.
Fans are now certain that an official teaser will be made public within the next 24 to 48 hours, as rumors about a possible trailer drop have intensified over the past several days. Two posts on a Stranger Things Instagram broadcast channel have, in fact, stoked fan fervor and sparked rumors that Netflix is getting ready to reveal a big reveal on the show’s last episode.
After a nearly 18-month period of silence, the broadcast channel spluttered back to life last Friday, July 11. It just said “scanning for signal” in the message you can see below. Fans of Stranger Things naturally started speculating about what this statement might be referring to, with many speculating (through sites like Reddit and the Stranger Things sub-Reddit) that a trailer was on the way.

Another message with the following text was uploaded three days later: “Signal detected: locking in at 7-1-6.”
Fans naturally assumed that Netflix was preparing to release the first trailer for season 5 and that it would happen on Wednesday, July 16. The reason for this is that the US calendar format represents July 16 as “7-1-6”.
Right now, Netflix can only logically reveal the release of the first trailer for Stranger Things 5. Stranger Things season 5’s official release dates have already been revealed; the streaming behemoth will do so at Tudum 2025 in late May. I’m getting more and more convinced that there will be a real teaser soon since I imagine the loyal fans of the popular show would be furious if the build-up to this big reveal didn’t amount to anything significant.
I’ve contacted Netflix to inquire about the teaser, and I’ll update this post if I hear back.
Why fans can’t agree on when Stranger Things 5’s first trailer could be released

Although there is evidence that a trailer for the fifth and final season of one of the greatest Netflix series will be released on July 16, some people believe it will happen a day early.
Additionally, there are signs that suggest this may be the case. First, the teaser will be released online on July 15, which is today (at the time of publication), according to the Instagram fan account strangerthingsnetfliix. This kind of thing would not normally be taken seriously. However, the Stranger Things Updates X/Twitter account and Netflix Junkie claim that the tweet on the fan account in question was liked by Netflix’s South African PR department. It’s possible that Netflix South Africa did this to deceive viewers before the trailer’s July 16 release, but I doubt it.
The fact that July 15th is the ninth anniversary of Stranger Things’ first season’s premiere on the top streaming service in the world is another important piece of proof. If a trailer for the show’s last season were made public today, it would be a fitting homage to one of the most popular Netflix TV Originals ever. Fans are more inclined to trust the official Stranger Things Instagram broadcast channel than any fan account, in my opinion. Therefore, if a teaser is released on July 16 rather than today, don’t be shocked.
When will the first Stranger Things 5 trailer be released, in your opinion? Tell me in the comments below. I’ll be covering the teaser (or whatever this announcement is) when it happens, so keep a watch on TechRadar as well.
