The popular G4 video doorbell’s replacement from Aqara is currently on the market. Announced in January, the $129.99 G410 is still one of the few (only?) doorbells that supports both wireless and hardwired installations and Apple’s HomeKit Secure Video. It also has a ton of new features that make it one of the most feature-rich video doorbells available without a subscription. Additionally, it serves as a multi-protocol hub that facilitates the seamless transfer of smart homes to Matter.
With a broad 175-degree field of view and end-to-end encryption for both live and recorded recordings, the Aqara G410 adds 2K video in a 4:3 aspect ratio. It has Thread radios, Bluetooth, Zigbee, and dual-band Wi-Fi installed. This implies that it can serve as an Aqara hub, Thread border router, and Matter controller that supports the whole line of Aqara’s Zigbee accessories as well as the growing number of third-party Matter-over-Thread and Matter-over-Wi-Fi products that Aqara and eventually Ikea will sell.
Additionally, it’s among the first doorbells with a mmWave sensor to more precisely detect human presence, and on-device facial recognition to initiate automations or notifications. For even more automation options, Advanced Matter Bridging enables it to share facial recognition with Matter platforms such as Home Assistant.
Platforms that support the Real-Time Streaming Protocol (RTSP), such as Home Assistant, can receive the G410’s video feed via your local network. Additionally, it can stream to Samsung SmartThing screens, Google Home, Amazon Alexa, and, of course, Aqara’s seven-inch Panel Hub S1 Plus.
One of the reasons Aqara’s doorbells are so popular is because they don’t charge users recurrent fees. Interestingly, hardwired G410 installations allow for continuous recording around-the-clock to 512GB (max) microSD cards that are placed into the camera’s 95dB indoor chime hub. If you’d like, video can also sync to NAS storage on your home network. While most people can disregard it, as I do with my ancient G4 doorbell, Aqara does offer a membership to enable additional capabilities.
The Aqara G410 video doorbell is now available for $129.99 from Aqara directly or via online merchants like as Amazon.
