I swapped Shudder for Hallmark+ for a week – and a silly rom-com about a ghost warmed my dark heart

Hallmark+

Hallmark+ does not come to me when I consider the top streaming services and what I would suggest to others. Because it was known for making corny films with cliches and absurd stories, I had mostly written it off.

I had never tried out Hallmark+ as a subscription since, as you may have guessed, I detest romantic comedies in general and I personally think they’re terrible.

Don’t get me wrong, I enjoy watching the occasional horrible Christmas movie with my friends to laugh at if it’s on TV, but the thought of viewing these films on a daily basis makes me cringe.

However, I do like a challenge, so I chose to switch from Shudder, my go-to horror streaming service, to Hallmark+, which has a seven-day free trial. I had enough time to try this out and see if I could locate a movie that I liked.

I did, much to my amazement.

Why I fell in love with 3 Bed, 2 Bath, 1 Ghost

Hallmark+

You would be correct if you were asking if I chose this title because it included a ghost. Even if it wasn’t going to frighten me the way some of the finest horror films do, it seemed appropriate that I watch something with otherworldly undertones.

“3 Bed, 2 Bath, 1 Ghost” is a ridiculous title, to be sure, but you have to give them credit for grabbing your attention. You can tell right away that there will be a home and a ghost involved, which is usually the basis for a fantastic horror film, but this time it was a romantic comedy.

I’m open to being proven incorrect, and I must say that I rather enjoyed this film. Because I like things that surprise me or have unexpected turns, I tend to ignore romantic comedies, but I was pleasantly pleased by how much I liked this movie.

The story revolves around a realtor named Anna who discovers that a 1920s ghost named Ruby lives in one of the houses she is supposed to sell and won’t go. The two women recognize that they have something in common, despite the fact that this obstacle is obviously frustrating.

Ruby thinks that if she can help Anna rediscover her love, she will finally be able to go on because both of them left their fiancés at the altar.

Although I am aware that this plot is ridiculous and the type of thing I would typically detest, I have to say that this is a truly lovely, well-acted film that made my week of Hallmark+ titles much more tolerable.

I also learned that Chris McNally and Julie Gonzalo, the two main characters, are a real-life couple, which perhaps explains why they have such a strong connection. I enjoyed seeing these two work through a challenging circumstance with the help of an unlikely benefactor to reunite.

3 Bed, 2 Bath, 1 Ghost is probably going to be ideal for you if you already enjoy Hallmark films, but I’m also going to start suggesting them to others who don’t typically watch them.

It’s ideal if you need some lightheartedness and a raise. Even though I’ve loved viewing all the new horror films this August, I can’t help but like a completely other kind of ghost story.
