Apple
  • Claimed iPhone 17 dummy units tip a punchy orange color for the iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max
  • The iPhone 17 Air is tipped to have a nice sand-colored option, alongside blue, back, and white options
  • The standard iPhone 17 is expected to sport black, white, light blue, and pastel pink color options

We have a fair idea of what colors to anticipate from Apple’s next-generation phones thanks to dummy units of the anticipated iPhone 17 range. If they materialize, the iPhone Pro lineup may get a splash of vibrant color.

Sony Dickson, an Apple-focused tipster, posted a variety of iPhone 17 dummy units in various colors, which we are told to assume are the result of insider knowledge.

A bright orange iPhone 17 Pro dummy device stands out, even if the iPhone 17 has a pretty pink pastel color and the anticipated iPhone 17 Air has a nice sand-ish tone.

If this information proves to be true, it could signal a slight shift in Apple’s strategy. Historically, the Pro iPhones have tended to use somewhat subdued colors. The iPhone 16 Pro Max’s Desert Titanium model was likely as bold as flagship phones go, while the rest of the lineup leaned on more subdued hues like white, black, and grey.

Orange might therefore provide the iPhone Pro a competitive edge in terms of vibrant colors. According to the dummy units, the orange has a candy-like color and a pastel flatness that would go well with the design of the most recent Pro iPhones.

Complementary colors

I think the colors offered across the projected iPhone 17 range work well, though it should be noted that these images are far from official and that it’s unclear where these fake devices came from.

To satisfy customers who like muted phones, they offer the standard black and white alternatives, while the iPhone 17 Pro models may see a return of the dark blue color.

The iPhone 17’s light blue and pink color options provide a splash of newness without being overpowering. However, the iPhone 17 Air’s light blue and light yellow/sand hues seem like they may look good on a smaller iPhone.

If it makes any sense, I believe the tipped hues on the iPhone 17 Pro and 17 Pro Max complement the new rectangular rear camera array by drawing attention to it while also blending it into the phone’s back.

Naturally, I’m still not quite sure that the much-discussed camera design change will materialize because I fail to see how it will improve the iPhone 17 Pro’s camera performance; Apple rarely makes design changes for the sole purpose of aesthetics.

Unless using this rectangular camera array allows for better component packaging, which would result in a thinner iPhone Pro. However, this is merely my educated guess.

We really don’t have much longer to wait before learning about new iPhones, as Apple is anticipated to release them around September, when it typically hosts an event focused on phones.
