Devil Wears Prada 2

The official release date of Devil Wears Prada 2 has been set. The sequel is actually taking place over twenty years after the first film was released.

I don’t mean to be critical, but I don’t think Vanessa Williams’ attempt to keep the IP alive through a musical is very compelling. Disney’s The Devil Wears Prada was one of the decade’s most memorable films if you were a tween in the 2000s. You watched the notorious Andy Sachs (Anne Hathaway) clothing transition sequence more than you completed your schoolwork, you memorized all of Miranda Priestly’s (Meryl Streep) famous lines, and for the first time in your life, you detested Emily Blunt because of her character (Emily Charlton).

“Why do we need another sequel of a bygone classic that likely won’t be as good?” I hear you ask. Despite my tendency toward optimism, I am convinced that this sequel has the potential to rank among the top new films of the decade.

Why? Behind-the-scenes pictures already demonstrate that the costumes are just as iconic as they were two decades ago, the original cast is all returning, and the plot appears to be quite compelling. We have the makings of an unmistakable hit when we combine this with the unavoidable A-list appearances that will be coming our way. Fortunately, we already know a lot about what The Devil Wears Prada 2 will be like, even though I’m ten months early.

It’s official! The release date of Devil Wears Prada 2 is set for May 1, 2026. The MET Gala, which is undoubtedly going to be the season’s most important fashion event, is surprisingly only one weekend away. With the cast participating in either in-character or out-of-character fantastic publicity for the sequel, it appears that we will witness some crossover here as well.

The Devil Wears Prada 2 trailer: is there one?

Unfortunately, as of this writing, there isn’t a trailer for The Devil Wears Prada 2, even if it might seem like all of these set clips might stand alone as a whole trailer.

Filming has only just started, therefore we haven’t seen any footage yet. The movie went into production on June 30, 2025. Although we are unable to predict when development will conclude, we may assume that a trailer won’t become widely known until at least early 2026.

Without Anne Hathaway, Emily Blunt, Meryl Streep, and Stanley Tucci—all of whom will be returning for the sequel—The Devil Wears Prada wouldn’t be the same. Additionally, Justin Theroux, Lucy Liu, Simone Ashley, and Kenneth Branagh have all been confirmed as new co-stars. Additionally, as time passes, a ton of unanticipated cameos will probably emerge.

Here’s the confirmed The Devil Wears Prada 2 cast so far:

  • Anne Hathaway as Andy Sachs
  • Meryl Streep as Miranda Priestly
  • Emily Blunt as Emily Charlton
  • Stanley Tucci as Nigel Kipling
  • Tracie Thoms as Lily Ravitz
  • Tibor Feldman as Irv Ravitz
  • Kenneth Branagh as Miranda’s husband
  • Patrick Brammal as Andy’s new love interest
  • Simone Ashley
  • Lucy Liu
  • Justin Theroux
  • B.J. Novak
  • Pauline Chalamet
  • Conrad Ricamora
  • Helen J. Shen
  • Caleb Hearon

Along with producer Karen Rosenfelt, the original film’s writers Aline Brosh McKenna and director David Frankel are also returning for the follow-up.

Nicholas Galitzine, Hathaway’s co-star from The Idea of You, had previously expressed a desire to collaborate with both her and Streep on the follow-up. The actor stated in Elle’s 2024 Hollywood Rising edition, “Listen, if Annie’s down for it, if they want to do a sequel of The Devil Wears Prada, I’ll be someone.” “I’ll be the assistant who runs and gets coffee for everyone.” It’s unclear, though, whether his appeals had any real impact.

Adrian Grenier, who portrayed Nate, Andy’s lover, will not be making a comeback in the follow-up.

Disney has not yet released a narrative for the follow-up, but according to Puck magazine, the plot revolves upon Miranda Priestly, played by Streep as Wintour, as she nears the end of her career and deals with the demise of traditional magazine publishing. She must compete against Blunt’s Emily Charlton, her former assistant who is now a high-ranking executive at a luxury business like Kering or LVMH, whose advertising funds Priestly sorely needs.

Although we are aware that Hathaway’s Andy will also make a comeback, it is yet unclear who Andy has become.

With additional aspects not found in the previous novel, the sequel is probably inspired by the book Revenge Wears Prada. Andy, who had just turned thirty, was getting married in Revenge (while production, we saw a wedding band on Hathaway’s hand). Before Miranda reappears in her life, she had established herself as a prominent magazine editor and worked closely with Emily, a former Runway survivor.

As everyone knows, Miranda is partially modeled after Anna Wintour, the Editor-in-Chief of Vogue, who just resigned from her post after 37 years in the role. It is unclear if the sequel would make reference to this, but considering how closely Wintour’s departure timings coincided with filming, it is not implausible.
