- CPU and RAM details of the iPhone 17 have leaked
- Not all the rumors we’ve seen agree on these specs
- The handsets should be unveiled in September
The release of the iPhone 17 is probably just a few months away, and a recent leak has revealed two of the base model’s important specifications. However, only one of these is expected to represent an improvement over the iPhone 16.
Analyst Jeff Pu (via 9to5Mac) claims that in addition to the iPhone 17 Air, the conventional iPhone 17 will receive an upgrade to a new A19 chip. The iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max will upgrade to the A19 Pro in the interim.
This is wonderful news because Pu has previously stated that the A18 chip seen in the iPhone 16 would remain in the base model iPhone 17. Apple used the same tactic with the iPhone 14 series in 2022.

While it’s possible that staying with an earlier CPU might result in an iPhone 17 price reduction, it doesn’t appear that the A18 chip will be utilized. It can be argued that existing iPhones are more than fast enough for most consumers for most jobs.
No extra RAM?

Pu has reaffirmed that the regular iPhone 17 would have 8GB of RAM, mirroring the iPhone 16, even if he now thinks a chipset update will occur. It appears that all of the other versions in the series will be upgraded to 12GB.
This recent claim appears to raise serious doubts about the iPhone 17’s alleged plan to join the iPhone 17 Air, iPhone 17 Pro, and iPhone 17 Pro Max in having more RAM than their predecessors.
It seems odd that the iPhone 17 would continue to use 8GB of RAM while the iPhone 17 Air receives 12GB, as more RAM would allow Apple Intelligence greater creative freedom. However, nothing is official until Apple makes these phones public.
We will, of course, keep you updated on any other leaks and rumors before to the iPhone 17 series’ official launch, which Bloomberg reporter and trustworthy Apple tipster Mark Gurman has predicted will take place on Tuesday, September 9, or Wednesday, September 10.
